Every little boy has his fantasy, and though I grew up with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joe, the one who would destroy them all is of course Batman. I wanted to be Batman so bad, I even had the face mask, ears, cape and gloves that shot small arrows at you target. I was Batman…
Michael Keaton will alway play an extremely important role in my life, because he was the man who brought the Batman to real life. His ability to play Bruce Wayne as the socially disconnected but focused superhero brought the character that I read every Saturday to the screen.
Every week, my dad would take my brother and I to the grocery store (M&M’s), and right next door was the famous comic book and trading card store of Odessa, TX. I would go straight to the DC comics section and look for the newest Batman comic book.
Batman was my life…then, to my suprise as I was just about to lose the addiction, in 2004, it was announced that they were taking away the overly perky nipples of the batsuit and starting over. And when I found that the director was Chris Nolan (who directed great, dark movies such as: The Prestige, Momento, and Insomnia), I literally could not sleep for nights waiting for the new movie. My childhood was reborn!
The long awaited perfection that was later made known as Batman Begins was released June 15, 2005. I was there, with tears in my eyes enjoying the sweet, monumental, memorable moment known as the day I found Jesus. Yes, I knew there was a God when He brought me Batman all over again.
And now, the little boy inside of me will not rest because of the sequel that is being released July 18th, 2008, The Dark Knight with the reinvented ‘Joker.’ I wipe tears from my eyes just thinking of it. Life is good. Life is great. Can anyone tell that this is an obsession for me?
